Revitalizing Riley Entertainment
Welcome!
About four years ago, I started the Riley Entertainment website with the idea that it would become my hub for gaming and indie game development content. The gaming section was quite active since then, offering ongoing guides for Eve Online, and basic informational content for Starfield and The First Descendant. The Exploring Winnipeg Parks website is now extremely active, with new photo galleries for parks every week.
Meanwhile, the game development section floundered. Parks photography, gaming, and life in general took precedence.
This past summer, I completely revamped the Exploring Winnipeg Parks website by automating the majority of its structural building blocks with custom Python scripts. All of the HTML is now generated via Jinja templates. Photo editing and image meta-data management is handled with custom Gimp Python-fu scripts. Even the sitemap generation and deployment process have been automated.
So I've taken the experience I gained coding in Python, and applied it to the game development section of Riley Entertainment. I migrated some of the prior articles and blogs posts I had from Medium and GameDev.net, and gave them a new home right here on the website.
Going forward, I'll be authoring articles and blog posts in classic markdown with TOML-style frontmatter. The entire game development section can then be regenerated with a single command, driven by Jinja templates and Python scripts. The entire workflow is just so much more streamlined than trying to use an external blogging website. Author the post, regenerate the site, run a deployment script, and there it is! 😄
Once I have more articles and blog posts up, I'll be updating the landing pages to incorporate filtering by date range and tags, and adding better navigation overall.
I'm in the midst of building a new web-based game called Peg City Parks Jigsaw, which I'll be blogging about regularly over the next few months! 😊
