Many of the non-empire factions manufacture their own upgraded cruiser, often largely based on one of the regular empire cruisers. While they are available to Alpha players, they are expensive to manufacture, and each require two faction cruiser skills to be trained.
Pirate faction cruisers are a good choice for more experienced pilots who have already learned how to run combat sites. For pilots who have trained all the relevant skills to their maximum, they tend to dominate high-security combat sites.

Designed by the Blood Raiders, the Ashimmu's ability to drain an enemy ship's capacitor while holding them in place allows it to effectively paralyze its enemies. When fit for PvE, the Ashimmu provides a strong medium energy turret platform, capacitor, and armor tank.
Designed by the Angel Cartel, the Cynabal provides the ultimate medium projectile turret platform, with strong navigation attributes. With an even slot layout, and near-equal shield and armor hit points, the Cynabal can be fit in a variety of ways.
Designed by the Guristas, the Gila's strong medium drone bonuses and missile bonuses combine with a strong shield layer to provide one of the tankiest cruisers available.
Designed by the Mordu's Legion, the Orthrus provides the ultimate missile sniping platform, with an extreme range bonus on warp scramblers and disruptors. When fit for PvE, the Orthrus dominates D.E.D. combat sites.
Designed by the Sansha's Nation, the Phantasm provides the ultimate Medium Energy Turret platform, with a strong afterburner velocity bonus. Its slot layout allows it to fit either a shield or armor tank.
Designed by the Sisters of EVE, the Stratios provides the ultimate all-in-one exploration experience. Its deep drone bay, extra armor resistances, and range bonus for Medium Energy Turrets make it competitive in combat. Meanwhile, its ability to fit covert cloaking devices, along with its bonuses to probe strength and analyzer virus strength, allow it to successfully navigate dangerous space on its way to and from hacking sites.
Designed by the Guardian Angels, the Vigilant provides the ultimate Medium Hybrid Turret platform. When fit for PvE, its slot layout favors an armor tank, but it can wield a surprisingly strong active shield tank as well.
