Production Notes - Scene 8 - The Falaise Gap
A little exposition on the mission details before the movie really gets in gear.
We first see Lance deliver a letter to Stephanie, and then hear from Sergeant Norfolk.
The squad will be taking over patroling duties in a village named Saint-Lambert-sur-Dives.
In France, there are actually six villages that share the name "Saint-Lambert", so I had a little fun with that fact...
I needed some reason for the squad to have to travel on foot, so I went with the notion that there was some miscommunication as to where their escort was headed. ;)
The phrase "I hope you boys are ready for your first big adventure" is a hat-tip to the music track that plays in the next scene.
This scene also establishes another anniversary date: September 1. Lance and Stephanie were married that day in 1943.
Visual editing you may not have noticed:
- In the first portion of the scene, the visuals switch between "Critical Talk" (the shots of Lance) and "Car Talk" (the shots of the postal runner). Just some careful prop placement. ;)
- The alternating shots of Norfolk walking back and forth are "Ego Walk 1" and "Ego Walk 2".
- The close-up shots of the four soldiers are all "Head Close-up", and were actually shot on the Urban City Street set (the rest of that sequence was shot on the Urban Alleyway set). I just used slightly different camera angles to make it appear as though they were standing in different locations.
- The final portion of this scene is almost entirely made up of "Inspection", just with a variety of camera angles.
Sound editing you may not have noticed:
- Once again, the background ambience in the city scenes was generated using Magix Music Maker.
- In the final portion of this scene, I used the "Dark Horizons" music. The cymbal cue is timed to match Lance looking up at the storm clouds. This is a little foreshadowing of what's to come.
Script changes by JazzX:
- "Your lives of luxury are about to change" was altered to "Your silver-spoon-fed lives of luxury are about to change."
- "The people in this country apparently thought it would make my day..." was altered to "The people in this country apparently thought it would amuse me greatly..."
